A copy of The Komarr Report, a strategy/military memoir written by Miles Vorkosigan's father, will be placed in your mailbox.

Steve?

I-- I wanted to talk to you about something. About Bruce. [She takes a shaky breath, clearly nervous about this entire idea and not used to leaving messages, period.] We never told him anything about what happened in South Africa. Maybe we should have.

Not with him, with the matching. It made me think, but nothing's wrong.

[Well, nothing that's going to cause a problem for anyone else.]

Harashan -- there is a park on the river across from a cafe called the Paradise. [Ugh who names these things?] I can come to you if it is easier.

Captain America? It's Queen Medusa.

[ It could conceivably occur to her that he might not know her. The normal rules have gone out the window. Time travel has always been possible. But it wouldn't do a damn thing to change how she'd approach this. Direct is the only way. ]

We need to speak.
accidentalqueen: (can you be what attilan needs?)

Wherever you would be most comfortable. Or feel would be most private. Your knowledge of this place far exceeds my own at the moment.

[ She hasn't been here long enough to know where the best place to conduct such conversations might be. Medusa's not even entirely sure what she wants to say, except to reaffirm a connection. Or what she should tell him about...other things. ]

I'll meet you there.

[ Another person, in such a precarious and unfamiliar situation, might decide to lay low and keep a low profile. Medusa declines to do this. She couldn't hide her nature for long, even if she wanted to— and she doesn't want to. They should know who they're dealing with. They should be very aware of who they've chosen to meddle with. She makes no effort to control the sprawl of her hair, and she acts like she owns every inch of space. Like she should be in charge.

(It rankles her that she's not.)

He seems right enough that she doesn't instantly notice, when she sees him in person, that he's not right. Her version of right. And even if she did, Medusa wouldn't allow it to show. If pride and poise is all she has left, she'll take it.
]

Captain Rogers.

[ There's just the hint of something softening, some relief. A slight smile. ]

As I'm the one who proposed the meeting, I hope you'll forgive me for not offering to buy you coffee.

[Well that was a failure. Ah well, can't win 'em all.]

My hypothetical friend would like to invoke the fifth amendment in our dear constitution that lets him OR her decline to answer questions where the answers might incriminate them.

But seriously, was there some truth to that?

[ Medusa can be accused of many things. She's temperamental, vicious in her anger when roused. Stubborn, occasionally to the point of forcing herself to believe in what she wants rather than what's true. But one thing she has never been is stupid. Or poor at reading signals, when she's spent her life with a man who could never communicate with her in words. She knows what's going on. ]

I suppose we should dispense with this immediately. You are not the Steven Rogers I know, are you?

[ It's not like it isn't obvious. He doesn't look quite right. He doesn't greet her the way the man she knew would. He would be happier to see her. At least, he would feel something besides reserved politeness. ]

You have no idea who I am.

[Satisfied with his dark business, Sans switched gears (finally).]
